Meltham Moor Mini Marathon

On 19 May the children from Meltham Moor Primary School joined hundreds of schools from across the country in completing the world’s biggest mini-marathon challenge.

They were inspired by their amazing headteacher Mrs Woodfield, who took part in the actual London marathon last month, completing it in an impressive 3 hours 15 minutes.

The TCS Mini London Marathon has encouraged schools to sign up and challenge their pupils to achieve a Guinness World Record for the most number of pledges for a sports activity in one month.

Mrs Woodfield said about the day, 'The mini-marathon was a wonderful event: every child in school ran, from nursery to Year 6, and we were also helped by some young sports leaders from Honley High School. All of the staff joined in as well as many parents. The field was awash with happy smiles and shouts of support and encouragement. It was lovely to see so many people being active and having fun doing so. The sun even came out for us! Together we have raised over £1000 for our PTA. I had such a lot of support from the school community for my marathon, I wanted the children to experience some of this too. I was very proud of every single child’.

Before the end of May, all the pledges will be carefully counted and an announcement made whether the current record has been beaten, either way we are so proud of our pupils at Meltham Moor.

The school is still welcoming any donations in support of their achievements.
