at Together Learning Trust
Every journey is different - we’re here for yours.
At Together Learning Trust, we believe every young person deserves the right support to succeed in education, even when the mainstream classroom isn’t the right fit for them right now.
Rise offers a short-term, tailored learning environment for students who need time and space to reset, refocus, and build the skills and confidence to return to school ready to thrive.
Watch our short video to meet Leanne, our Alternative Provision Manager, and hear more about how it works.
What is Alternative Provision?
Alternative Provision (AP) provides education for young people who, for various reasons, would benefit from support outside their mainstream school. This might be due to personal challenges, emotional needs, or circumstances that make mainstream learning difficult at this time. Rise Alternative Provision offers a personalised learning experience that focuses on your child's individual needs, helping them stay engaged with education whilst working towards their goals. Rise is designed as temporary support - typically 12 weeks - with the goal of helping your child return to mainstream education feeling more confident and ready to succeed.
What does Rise offer?
Small group learning in our specialist centre
Vocational training and practical skills development
Support from external agencies when needed
One-to-one mentoring and tailored support
A clear pathway back to mainstream education
The difference Rise makes
Every young person's journey through Rise is different. Here are two real examples of young people who have been supported here. Names and identifying details have been removed to protect their privacy.
Rebuilding confidence in learning
When he arrived: This student struggled to engage in lessons, had low confidence, and believed that teachers did not like him. This often led to poor behaviour and repeated suspensions.
During his time at Rise: Through consistent support, targeted intervention, and strong relationships with staff, he gradually developed confidence and a more positive attitude towards learning.
Since returning to mainstream: His suspensions have significantly reduced, while positive behaviours and relationships, particularly with his Head of Year, have noticeably improved. A powerful sign of his increased self-esteem was his willingness to model the new school uniform for promotional displays. His mother has shared that he is now happier, more confident, and far more positive about school, with a much stronger relationship between home and school.
Finding a path forward
When she arrived: This student had a very negative attitude towards education and was experiencing ongoing difficulties with friendships, which impacted her confidence and wellbeing.
During her time at Rise: She built strong, positive relationships with staff and peers, helping her grow in confidence, engage more consistently with learning, and develop strategies to manage challenges. She also became more comfortable seeking support and formed meaningful friendships. She showed significant personal growth, particularly in her engagement with future planning, working closely with the careers adviser to create a clear, realistic pathway towards her goals.
Since returning to mainstream: She has maintained a positive attitude and continues to make good progress. Staff have noted how well she has settled back in, highlighting her increased confidence, maturity, and engagement. She is happier, more optimistic about her future, and continues to build on the success she achieved at Rise.
Making a referral
This year (2025–26), Rise is available to students from Ryburn and Brooksbank schools only.
We welcome referrals for Key Stage 3 students who would benefit from a short-term placement with the goal of successfully reintegrating into mainstream education.
Referrals must be made by school staff, in consultation with the student and their family.
Families should speak directly to their child’s school – not contact Rise directly.
Important: Before submitting a referral, a telephone consultation must take place. To arrange this, please call or email us at your earliest convenience.
